At least when I was writing on my blog previously I was able to sort of track time with what I was sewing, with time well away from me I have no perspective of what I have done.<br />
I stopped blogging when Blogger was going through a lot of changes and I just did not have the patience and sit and work through them. I have not been able to comment on other blogs ( still trying to work out why ) although I have been reading and enjoying........ I have decided to expand my computer skills which was one of the reasons why I started blogging in the first place - a practical application - So this means sitting and working through the issues...... Plus I have gone from a windows PC to Mac - the same but different.<br />
<br />
The last 17 months has seen me working, at some points full time, my youngest started high school, my middle son while managing full time senior high school also working 20 hours a week - a lot of drop offs and pick ups until his full license comes into play in November and my oldest in his 3rd year Electricians apprenticeship. My husband and I had our first out of Australia holiday - photos will follow in future posts, My husband and oldest son were involved in separate minor car accidents each in their brand new cars, we have a new family member - a Pink and Grey Galah named Fawkes - rescued from the nest when her mother was killed. The list of happenings is extensive - Good and not so good seems to keep us all very busy. <br />
I have still managed to do a bit of sewing, it has helped me keep everything balanced. So the least I can do is write about it, so that I can track time once again.<br />
So this being only a written post while I work out where to start - I am still here.......<br />
<br />

</div>
In my previous post I made mention of some cross stitch kits that I was thinking of making into pin cushions. The kits came with a magazine subscription "Cross Stitch Magic" and "Needlecraft Magic". Each magazine came with a little sampler, some where to be made up as cards, others as magnets, needle books etc. Each month I would pull out the kit, stitch in the gridlines, sometimes I would start stitching....... at the time I had two very full on boys, newborn and a toddler so inevitably they would end up back in their packets and stored away.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">More kits than I can poke a stick at.....</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I love pin cushions, I just don't like using them. I had a couple packed away for years and recently pulled them out and hung them in my sewing room. They are only little and looked lonely and the idea came to me they might like some company and it all just fell into place with what I could do with the little kits.<br />
At the moment I have some long winded projects on the go and will not see a Monthly finish for the Sew it's Finished Blog - and as I made a commitment to this blog I needed something that was achievable and the double whammy, a UFO would be removed from my massive list.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOwk92zsDMygzjn-J5J7ksnkk4VLf3XPblbNWxNI0TerHXGHdIM5hn6XQl0BuIo3iICxaiETwMZk5ndV9NWM6XIxWjVLuRT1FgmbeHNjx9GuxaSIEuy1x8pn53wHVlBmiEo63lV36m-Hjf/s1600/P1010648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOwk92zsDMygzjn-J5J7ksnkk4VLf3XPblbNWxNI0TerHXGHdIM5hn6XQl0BuIo3iICxaiETwMZk5ndV9NWM6XIxWjVLuRT1FgmbeHNjx9GuxaSIEuy1x8pn53wHVlBmiEo63lV36m-Hjf/s320/P1010648.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The two little cross stitches are my first finish. I have added the ribbon for hanging purposes, they will never be used as their name implies.<br />
The miniature quilt also pictured is the tiny leftovers from a quilt I made for my Mother and Father in Law about 7 years ago. The squares are 3/4" finished. It is a replica of the bigger picture, so to speak. It will be used as a coaster.<br />

I almost feel like I need to start a pin cushion addict group for support with this little fetish I have that is very quickly busting out of control. What do you think?Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-11441680816865678642013-02-15T14:25:00.001+08:002013-02-15T15:41:06.890+08:00Here is the Beehive......Finally a post. I have been meaning to get on and write a post since my last, but my head just couldn't get it together. I have been checking out other blogs and seeing some amazing stuff, being inspired and then just dropping the ball.<br />
I have a little finish of a UFO that has only been going since December 2011. I made mug rugs for Christmas presents that year and had a couple leftover. Yay I was going to get them. So often I make goodies for others, love them to pieces and with good intentions plan on making it for myself, and then never get around to it. Alas I did not buy enough backing fabric, so they have been taunting me ever since. Leftovers from another project to the rescue and they are finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtTrpQKKK-fW3CDdXvm_e3BHsHEbVXkDoM1zTJrSav40JFNmRKgNji5vM2gYQF1lE77mmZUt-97gcNdiY4y4560GR-o3Dl65GAX5A4JgP_gNal_qRcLtLX7Q0z8ujYZzH5vwPs63wOsWCr/s1600/P1010629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtTrpQKKK-fW3CDdXvm_e3BHsHEbVXkDoM1zTJrSav40JFNmRKgNji5vM2gYQF1lE77mmZUt-97gcNdiY4y4560GR-o3Dl65GAX5A4JgP_gNal_qRcLtLX7Q0z8ujYZzH5vwPs63wOsWCr/s320/P1010629.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will pack these away until next Christmas now. They match my table runner so I am super chuffed to have them ready. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A couple of years ago I found a plant at the nursery called a Beehive Ginger - it was planted in my fernery. This year for the first time it has flowered.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Zie6HGVWnnDpwUJQdk6DzBCtKJtizZRReL5LwltqeSHabvBzHpWfKrU2JM6EIw5wcH4pVVTMrMnCwmZiqFst6xf_2EoI1DIutYGL3KJV5J9mnuv7zN75Hl5hOd7PEHs9L7goym1E9z1Z/s1600/P1010621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Zie6HGVWnnDpwUJQdk6DzBCtKJtizZRReL5LwltqeSHabvBzHpWfKrU2JM6EIw5wcH4pVVTMrMnCwmZiqFst6xf_2EoI1DIutYGL3KJV5J9mnuv7zN75Hl5hOd7PEHs9L7goym1E9z1Z/s320/P1010621.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And what is so cute is the little flowers that poke out the beehive. They are spotty and only last a day. You can see one full bloom and the dead ones off to the side. Each day I go and check on them as each "little bee" pokes his head out and then is gone tomorrow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All this in 40 degree heat. You can see the hive with it's own water reserve, we have a bore at our house so we are allowed to water one extra day a week. Because of water restrictions, we are only allowed to water off towns water 2 days a week, we feel very spoiled to have the extra day and we don't abuse it....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQk3S_L0j5pm-WjyWdlXHYVH-vzq5R6MUyZIjH8fUh2rqNypHJumQ0ph7AXI5BfYmG6tf6N8Lv0_JiD2GwvxC31REm_0q8Lnfy5j6Hho7hifvDeG3iWcE6KpZ9cK1auKO81BryXXRYz_TW/s1600/P1010626.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQk3S_L0j5pm-WjyWdlXHYVH-vzq5R6MUyZIjH8fUh2rqNypHJumQ0ph7AXI5BfYmG6tf6N8Lv0_JiD2GwvxC31REm_0q8Lnfy5j6Hho7hifvDeG3iWcE6KpZ9cK1auKO81BryXXRYz_TW/s320/P1010626.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6:30pm and well over 30 degrees, where else would you be but watching the sunset on the beach while having a swim. I saved you all from me being in my bathers in the picture. Not a breath of air and just stunning in the water. The beaches near us never get very busy so we are very spoilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirgixF883wy0EdL9BaMYpCWIrqZbfJhQBYz5LzqNcwXUYBi79pewgdpOlWt3LfN3mxvgFDJ39vTooyjV4tuBu-YbGyORUYLJIurH553In9xMCS_Nx9FVOevRqmqDynKCDluASLWoLuAsLm/s1600/P1010620.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirgixF883wy0EdL9BaMYpCWIrqZbfJhQBYz5LzqNcwXUYBi79pewgdpOlWt3LfN3mxvgFDJ39vTooyjV4tuBu-YbGyORUYLJIurH553In9xMCS_Nx9FVOevRqmqDynKCDluASLWoLuAsLm/s320/P1010620.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally back to sewing, I have a heap of little cross stitch kits from over the years that are supposed to be made into cards and things and I have decided I am going to stitch them all up and make them into pincushions, by the end of it lots and lots of pincushions. These are counted as UFO's as I have stitched the centre gridlines on almost all of them but never actually started the stitching. One a month would be a great start, we shall see......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another nearly forty degree day three parts over and dinner to prepare - sigh........</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-85024652039792311062013-01-27T18:14:00.000+08:002013-01-27T18:14:43.805+08:002013 - BalanceThe second half of 2012 had so much going on that it flew by and I can't believe my last post was back in July. My biggest news is that I have become a consultant for The Chefs Toolbox (http://kayeroberts.thechefstoolbox.net). I bought some of their pans nearly 10 years ago and am still using them so I thought I might have enough experience and definitely enough love for them to be able to demonstrate. My sewing did take a back seat to business setup.<br />
<br />
I am determined to balance home, business and sewing - blog this year.<br />
<br />
Wendy and Dawn from Sew it's Finished have allowed me to be a posting member again this year and they will keep me on track. I really want the stitcheries from the 2012 incentive quilt they designed..... Due to my lack of blogging August onwards I missed a few........ This quilt has now been added to my UFO list.<br />
I have made some changes to my lists on my side bar - I think I added as many UFO's to my half done list as I added completed to the completed 2012 list. I think we all paddle that boat.<br />
<br />
Just getting my head around blogging again and will add the button for Sew it's Finished and some new blogs etc.<br />
<br />
I have spent the last two weeks with laryngitis and a wracking cough so sewing has been out of the question, I stabbed my self one too many times.........<br />
<br />
Looking at the date I am really going to have too motor to get a UFO finished by the end of January - Focus<br />
This will be a photo free blog, I suppose this is a little like a new years resolution or mission statement. If I put it in writing it will hold me accountable.<br />
<br />
So my key word for this year is Balance..............Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-79279744389503529552012-07-30T21:04:00.000+08:002012-07-30T21:04:12.671+08:00The Very Hungry Caterpillar<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Where do I start, once again it has been a massive month of sewing for me, with the added bonus of designing..... My niece - the teacher of littlies with special needs, purchased a couple of Hungry Caterpillar panels and left it to me to come up with something bright and simple. This was the first creation. It's finished size was 1.2m by 1.5m a reasonably easy size to quilt and and fiddle with. The photo was a late afternoon shot so it has dulled the brightness......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7yDX8cDbjdoa49bRhE32SekQpNXnExk-79nvb2ALyFsmw7b0klFjj7FwhwALH77KuDORNUFILlNrruDd68UEaTKD4GqV1P1b4kSn3ayvucISrSb88OHM9qUcxN7cT-gBm7_rjiCdKaTui/s1600/P1010473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7yDX8cDbjdoa49bRhE32SekQpNXnExk-79nvb2ALyFsmw7b0klFjj7FwhwALH77KuDORNUFILlNrruDd68UEaTKD4GqV1P1b4kSn3ayvucISrSb88OHM9qUcxN7cT-gBm7_rjiCdKaTui/s320/P1010473.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I shadow quilted the main panel pieces and basic follow the line quilted the rest. The colored strips were leftovers from another project so were precut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglwkHbIv3i86OkXjBBWWsPurvvZ0arbSWNo8yMlSKs7hfYX8FMQ_-SEbBkrd0Nv8gL2TGK7K1gO9G2NlO8pf94rQBvYz6gxdVqH7pYL8tLQOC7OserIJn6JMn6eo-k43ZUmWug8S54_ZUd/s1600/P1010477.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglwkHbIv3i86OkXjBBWWsPurvvZ0arbSWNo8yMlSKs7hfYX8FMQ_-SEbBkrd0Nv8gL2TGK7K1gO9G2NlO8pf94rQBvYz6gxdVqH7pYL8tLQOC7OserIJn6JMn6eo-k43ZUmWug8S54_ZUd/s320/P1010477.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second Caterpillar quilt was finished late this afternoon and although I have loved doing the two quilt I am glad to see the back of them. The quilting of the last one has been interesting to say the least and is probably why I am really pleased to be finished. This quilt measures 1.2m by 2m so has been hard work to feed through my domestic sewing machine. I would give my right arm for a long arm quilting machine.....<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFEtFagwiyKiA8aTnfdSzqdd2fOZYdvCg06qVfL1nnExZB-jAWsZHSQ8giUDK9SRiz-5zZxPQyQ45zNIxM7aLJBltH40yi-7ByL6JzG4Cxmym5sZNpwQdv7YbO8D4Gqn0lzgTkjp6uPb5-/s1600/P1010490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFEtFagwiyKiA8aTnfdSzqdd2fOZYdvCg06qVfL1nnExZB-jAWsZHSQ8giUDK9SRiz-5zZxPQyQ45zNIxM7aLJBltH40yi-7ByL6JzG4Cxmym5sZNpwQdv7YbO8D4Gqn0lzgTkjp6uPb5-/s320/P1010490.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I even did a little free motion quilting on this. The sun and caterpillar had the honour of a little pizzaz. Usually I am a follow the lines kinda girl but I felt the panels needed a little something.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjufHlrqMIYt1YM04hxdpZKsVhe9GGS0x0mQ9llMvIGzWB0F7IqoSXXshlntK6x_qGDN-5OYvWn5MuMQ5NPWdjm5PBYiPzRTwB2cMRQ-9WdBIpqtVj0Ev4N8QojRXohLYAPEcp41eFAnlRi/s1600/P1010493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjufHlrqMIYt1YM04hxdpZKsVhe9GGS0x0mQ9llMvIGzWB0F7IqoSXXshlntK6x_qGDN-5OYvWn5MuMQ5NPWdjm5PBYiPzRTwB2cMRQ-9WdBIpqtVj0Ev4N8QojRXohLYAPEcp41eFAnlRi/s320/P1010493.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the quilt laid out on my cutting table waiting to be spray basted with 505 spray. I hate pinning quilts and find the basting spray to be the absolute best. No movement puckers front or back. The only thing I do is iron between every few rows of stitching. In the back of this picture is my UFO's.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also put together these panels for my nieces class. My Mum had them in her stash and thought they might be nice in her class rather than packed away for a rainy day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Bya1gReGCv6o5ON4izygQ6EyWT96c_G8hmKYfy77-nZTQctigjCaXSSb17LZ_WvStBcR-wsTo1fW7K3TzXx0Yk7xmXulai7VEI61AfecvmN8sRHwIGBrdehbG3gxUXpu-jzp8G79uFRN/s1600/P1010479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Bya1gReGCv6o5ON4izygQ6EyWT96c_G8hmKYfy77-nZTQctigjCaXSSb17LZ_WvStBcR-wsTo1fW7K3TzXx0Yk7xmXulai7VEI61AfecvmN8sRHwIGBrdehbG3gxUXpu-jzp8G79uFRN/s320/P1010479.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next on my list for my niece was another tactile activity quilt. This was a rather girly one, pinks and ruffles.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5tE6pDJ9gUGyOHKqa3y1ngLeZte62dNh89JkbWQ7Z7h9zEIB8BvledWoielWdJfqW-ULGlGTkSgwBx0gyyAc8FWsA1RwNks_2QE2J4WlVLPbyAcMP7gAJRGJvxfacYqHOpy2JVxc8f_kt/s1600/P1010482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5tE6pDJ9gUGyOHKqa3y1ngLeZte62dNh89JkbWQ7Z7h9zEIB8BvledWoielWdJfqW-ULGlGTkSgwBx0gyyAc8FWsA1RwNks_2QE2J4WlVLPbyAcMP7gAJRGJvxfacYqHOpy2JVxc8f_kt/s320/P1010482.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my second one of this type of quilt. Pockets to hide goodies in, as well as a zipper and buttons and tactile fabrics - toweling, polar fleece, satin, flannel etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next finish are some vision box panels. The kids that have no mobility are laid on the floor with toys suspended above them. The box has to be sturdy as there are other more active kids in the class and it is protecting the child having there quiet time. The boxes wall are plain wood and the thought was to line them with padded fabric panels serving a visual and if they roll purpose.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeAdW8B4EodloHQUrH6aMdBz4GWXOz-6ujRxss930nK_ugaKsWKm7S8r9q6ARA9abEMSm-HFznIx4uzxwbbeX-iu0_vQPnsm0EnfiCrJKdAQZl9yv3MgUh_g8y-sgaj64SjDEJihk0annD/s1600/P1010488.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeAdW8B4EodloHQUrH6aMdBz4GWXOz-6ujRxss930nK_ugaKsWKm7S8r9q6ARA9abEMSm-HFznIx4uzxwbbeX-iu0_vQPnsm0EnfiCrJKdAQZl9yv3MgUh_g8y-sgaj64SjDEJihk0annD/s320/P1010488.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to theme the fabrics with future thoughts of making felt mobile hangings in the same theme.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhum3HIZCLL4m6FbgrXitUKAYZOkZD8TnxxIX7yXGgerkbIe-9awbizV9uPVSY0kuSHc8lgyU_WieBxUq0-DFAEWDoOu-OlZpk8_WGjnA8Nxb3PerCZ_OCB2PU9I8Q6IcnZVLcMe0t-emIE/s1600/P1010489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhum3HIZCLL4m6FbgrXitUKAYZOkZD8TnxxIX7yXGgerkbIe-9awbizV9uPVSY0kuSHc8lgyU_WieBxUq0-DFAEWDoOu-OlZpk8_WGjnA8Nxb3PerCZ_OCB2PU9I8Q6IcnZVLcMe0t-emIE/s320/P1010489.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the visual box that is being "blinged" up. It is having a coat of paint and the panels on the inside will be hung from a rod using rod pockets on the back of the panel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi86YS4Og1zFmFkfDQVvrH4g09PkS4xplWH7LAVazAc2JZq36z6zBGNsSF9DRyc7d47ankN-wSb05dPw787kezxKSdfeS5pJ3rlkhDxEmd4dQ28wDjqj5dgLeq37iR9b2bvMmT2vGVLJK9w/s1600/P1010434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi86YS4Og1zFmFkfDQVvrH4g09PkS4xplWH7LAVazAc2JZq36z6zBGNsSF9DRyc7d47ankN-wSb05dPw787kezxKSdfeS5pJ3rlkhDxEmd4dQ28wDjqj5dgLeq37iR9b2bvMmT2vGVLJK9w/s320/P1010434.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally a friend of mine, whose daughter is a student at the school asked me if I could make her a poncho. She had one in the UK, and found it to brilliant for keeping her warm when outside in her wheelchair. Bulky jackets are time consuming to put on when there is a few of the littlies and the kids are not comfy with a wad of clothing behind them in their chairs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilNVeCMFNsEaqrYGyw3xXQFGB6GSPD7514ryTPq6oJ305VZiQcwbYOgzDj_u8MtP8wv_Vd9AbtQ6N0ZpbdfLCh9KfMeATa26bdC92d042cckHBNmy7CMLvw2KTV6-6oUWxc_gASWzokHVw/s1600/P1010484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilNVeCMFNsEaqrYGyw3xXQFGB6GSPD7514ryTPq6oJ305VZiQcwbYOgzDj_u8MtP8wv_Vd9AbtQ6N0ZpbdfLCh9KfMeATa26bdC92d042cckHBNmy7CMLvw2KTV6-6oUWxc_gASWzokHVw/s320/P1010484.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The poncho is shorter in the back than in the front. the hood is there to stop the freezing cold breeze and the slightly longer front can be wrapped around their legs. And best of all they can tuck their hands under or have them out. I am selling these, if anyone is interested please contact me via email. I am a little restricted by fabric availability for patterned but plain polar fleece is fairly standard in colors.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thank you Caitlin for being my model. She was very patient with me trialing the hood pattern, as you can imagine there were a couple of mockups made before the final poncho design was reached. This is a favorite as she loves pink, her mum has picked out a gorgeous piece of bright colored fabric for her next one. </div>

When I joined this group <a href="http://sewitsfinished.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">http://sewitsfinished.blogspot.com.au/</a> I was soooooo going to finish a heap of projects including the big ones, unknown to me another large project was going to challenge my one project a month off my to do list. The big projects are still at the bottom of the list but the little annoying ones are being completed. I am struggling even to meet the little ones, but I am really enjoying the incentive of an email from the lovely organisers of this blog and use it as my driver to complete and post.</div>

So from a couple of extra lines of sewing, which at the time I thought I was nuts, I finished two coasters. The original quilt was started 3 or 4 years ago, and I was too tight to throw these bits away. I am really looking forward to trying one out tonight with my cup of tea.</div>

I have added a few more hexagons to my collection, and have been very busy with commissioned sewing......which is very cool. I have even registered my ABN - for me kinda cool. So my lack of blogging is due to lots of sewing.</div>

Happy End of Financial Year.........</div>

With my extremely busy last few months anything that is not at arms length seems to be hard work. Time to change.<br />
What have I been up to? Well besides enjoying a heap of rain, very unusual for Perth this time of the year. By a heap I mean approximately 80mm over a week, I have been sewing more quilts for my niece. As explained in my previous post, my niece required some tactile items for her children in her class.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuhOboNExTRzlkDXiUbhufrnYfYIqMlpDszk-ROzTzboRTa-CnbN7HpQLxOQAZriKO2TWcq7e-PVDldPK8ed97wS_Ea4f3THiJzVaE31fwSUFo9TeMsWGkk7uUbtlj_4YjM0iFLwvaCH1n/s1600/P1010260.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuhOboNExTRzlkDXiUbhufrnYfYIqMlpDszk-ROzTzboRTa-CnbN7HpQLxOQAZriKO2TWcq7e-PVDldPK8ed97wS_Ea4f3THiJzVaE31fwSUFo9TeMsWGkk7uUbtlj_4YjM0iFLwvaCH1n/s320/P1010260.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another rag edge, more for the boys this time, the quilt measures finished 40" by 48". that seems rather a good size but the weight of the denim backing, gave me work out. It will be sturdy and hard wearing. I do plan to make a picnic rug one day with all my old jeans. I have been saving them, so this has been a warm up so to speak.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPElRbZ5AfzCIHdhhcwxxqwU7F456f_D-4xaLacgassv0XPeNAWgg1O-MbkTvGGpLZzPSJW209CDGSUOCEwH9Dj-DDfQRKJTBk_miDjhLMMMOo-Y_MSqxDjVHDFUnh-SnNBIBXHTw6NROz/s1600/P1010278.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPElRbZ5AfzCIHdhhcwxxqwU7F456f_D-4xaLacgassv0XPeNAWgg1O-MbkTvGGpLZzPSJW209CDGSUOCEwH9Dj-DDfQRKJTBk_miDjhLMMMOo-Y_MSqxDjVHDFUnh-SnNBIBXHTw6NROz/s320/P1010278.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now this was an interesting quilt to make. It is a tactile, activity mat. The zipper pulls down to reveal polar fleece. The buttons can be undone. and on either side are two pockets with elasticated tops to hide goodies in for the kids to pull out or tuck in. There are rings stitched into the seems in case we want to tie things to the quilt. The rest of the mat is made up of 3D or tactile fabrics.<br />

I have placed a little fuzzy in the pocket..........<br />

<br />
Theses are knitted or crocheted squares from different wools. The children will be able to pull these out the pockets to rub or feel the different textures of the wools. I have one more mat to make and more goodies to fill the pockets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My mum sent me over a care package to support the cause, these were squares leftover from a rag edge she made recently, they have made a small floor throw.<br />
<br />

<br />
This throw is backed in polar fleece. Small improvisation was required, some of the squares were a bit small. But then that is patchwork after all. and finally.......<br />

<br />
These little goodies with ribbons. The kids are not the only ones who like to stroke the ribbons. I am having today off from sewing and will start again tomorrow. I have been sewing every day now since Easter. So a day off will refresh the senses.<br />
Tomorrow will be 29 degrees celsius, and after the rain my garden needs a good tidy. Although it is autumn unseasonal rain encourages growth. All of the next week we are forecast rain again. So my next sewing day will be Sunday.<br />
Happy Mothers Day to all, I wish you a lovely day. My niece teaches children with special needs, they are very young with many obstacles including being blind, wheelchair bound and autism. The resources she has for these children are very basic and lack imagination. My niece funds her own resources also as the school budget is tight. Over Good Friday lunch we were discussing her obstacles and I offered to sew her up a couple of tactile quilts. The quilts would have a variety of fabrics with a different feel like - velvet, chiffon, netting,silk, polar fleece etc. finding small quantities of lots of different feeling fabrics is hard. My stash is mostly 100% cotton so............ Thank you Homecraft Textiles in Vic Park for supplying remnant bundles for half price.<br />
<br />

<br />
It is amazing how much we depend on our vision for texture/pattern in fabrics. Walking around a store with your eyes closed to really feel the texture is another experience. I touch and feel fabrics all the time but with these children in mind it was another dimension to quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4U5L00NlCk7HVrqIauVT1LdqIC0ifKAztWSLuoCenhmt79-Z-Nlh2Cg042dB9tvk06Ea4JYQH13guEUiD60kEF05JkmgOWlc7oZPTGyRfFRc4ZvKtlXcH79Ydw0E1KQr6YoDSicDuxb-b/s1600/P1010196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4U5L00NlCk7HVrqIauVT1LdqIC0ifKAztWSLuoCenhmt79-Z-Nlh2Cg042dB9tvk06Ea4JYQH13guEUiD60kEF05JkmgOWlc7oZPTGyRfFRc4ZvKtlXcH79Ydw0E1KQr6YoDSicDuxb-b/s320/P1010196.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although the photo's don't show the texture these fabrics offer soft, smooth, rough, fluffy etc. the mats are made to go on tables or on their laps each square is cut 7" finished at 6" and yes you can see a flannel as one of the squares. We are hoping to get donations of fabric and lace and wool to make more of these quilts from the families at the school.<br />
I also want to make eye spy quilts for the kids and have many other ideas just waiting for a miracle......<br />
My brother in law very kindly donated a couple of metres of denim to the cause and so with the purchase of some polar fleece I whipped up a couple of rag edge quilts. They are for the kids to lay on outside. I have finished the girls quilt and the boys quilt just needs the binding finished.<br />

Denim backing makes the quilt rather heavy but hard wearing.<br />

Hubby and brother heading into the Swan River to dive on a wreck<br />
I have also made a couple of touchy squares out of leftover polar fleece and ribbons, the children love the ribbon tassels and will sit fiddling and feeling. I must admit I love running my fingers over the ribbons too.<br />
<br />

<br />
I also have a couple of touchy activity mats on the design board with pockets and zippers and other goodies, they should be finished soon. I think the hardest part of making the quilts is the variety of fabrics needed.<br />

The blocks in this quilt were originally designed for another reason, as that reason no longer exists I decided to put them together for my niece to hang in her class.<br />
I really hope we get funding and donations to make many more quilts for the kids at he school. For now though I have plenty more sewing and designing to go.Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-61648061798746407152012-03-27T20:01:00.000+08:002012-03-27T20:01:09.494+08:00A Month ?Well I am still trying to work out where the last month has gone. I thought with everyone back at work and school I would ................ Let's just say a whole month has passed since my last post, A LOT has happened and I know I have been flat out but I don't seem to have a lot to show for my time. I have also noticed that a lot of fellow bloggers seem to be posting less at the moment so I guess we are all in the same boat. I have managed to do a bit of sewing this last few weeks, a very small finish and a few ticks on a couple of bigger projects.<br />
<br />

Wow my photo's are a bit on the hmmmmmm side. Anyway you get the idea, I have rehearsed my borders on the design wall, I have tried to be spontaneous with fabric placement but I like to try before I sew......... I now need to buy the fabric for the 1st border and backing.<br />
On to the next........ This little project has been on the go about seven years. Why? I don't know. I started it to try out a technique and moved onto the actual project. Silly thing is I was left with a little project that didn"t need much doing to it and yet it has just sat. The strips used in this where leftovers from another project.<br />
<br />

</div>It makes a great cookie barrel mat. My barrel is Australian Pottery made in Queensland and has a very rough bottom, the kids like to slide it on my bench to access it, so I thought the mat might protect my bench surface.<br />
The bright fabrics don't really go with the pottery style but it will do the job for now. It is out of my UFO pile.<br />

I have been dabbling in some knitting lately and chipping away at some of my big projects, I really want to finish some of these long timers so I can start some newies. Okay focus and finish is my goal for this month, you know how it is, you hit a snag, put it down.......... I think I might knit a bit tonight and choose a project tomorrow......Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-80226854459205196852012-02-29T16:47:00.002+08:002012-02-29T16:47:36.033+08:00Only Little.....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">See this little tag. it is part of a bigger picture. Usually it is just plain hot. My sewing is progressing mostly in the cool of the air conditioner which means hand sewing. I have a finish, I hope it counts for "Sew it's Finished " - it has been sitting in the bottom of my basket for quite awhile, at least six months and all they needed was press studs. Why do we leave the smallest, simplest things so long. Seriously a press stud. Anyway complete are two camera bags..........<br />

She thinks it's normal that at 4 years of age she draws a picture to be transferred to fabric ( by her Mum ) to then sit and sew after kinder. A stitchery she completed a few years ago surfaced from her craft box needing borders and a binding. During the school year she doesn't have the inclination to sew - homework and other commitments keep her busy however Christmas holidays gives her time and patience to tackle her sewing projects.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju85ovepmQJVQD6SEkaQLWePNclnRHa2vFXHsOtitkvInLAYbSUOKuaPzN88QUmAbuzb58KDWd45AYJlvpsPLBzsWvWJaShJj86ZfTiNG_6xTsRf6JEBjSfYh9dfZbkEuPfUQ_8095P9Sw/s1600/P1010071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju85ovepmQJVQD6SEkaQLWePNclnRHa2vFXHsOtitkvInLAYbSUOKuaPzN88QUmAbuzb58KDWd45AYJlvpsPLBzsWvWJaShJj86ZfTiNG_6xTsRf6JEBjSfYh9dfZbkEuPfUQ_8095P9Sw/s320/P1010071.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
A couple of years ago Father Christmas bought her a Brother sewing machine ( I think he knew her Mum is not good at sharing her pride and joy ). She has done a heap of practice over this time to sew straight 1/4 inch seams, and just generally learning her machine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnKqYhTa7gSNGP79KIxMt5QBP9_goFlaZRGV27riGnx8e55acEvkxFnDAsTM1DRpTotVBXsOMoankYtYhGPJb1M6aCe1P8PktfToi-pBhP3RvyhZVC0WxqMr3UfzJYg14RPqTwNKik_dtt/s1600/P1010073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnKqYhTa7gSNGP79KIxMt5QBP9_goFlaZRGV27riGnx8e55acEvkxFnDAsTM1DRpTotVBXsOMoankYtYhGPJb1M6aCe1P8PktfToi-pBhP3RvyhZVC0WxqMr3UfzJYg14RPqTwNKik_dtt/s320/P1010073.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
So it was my great pleasure to show her how to sew borders and a binding on the little long lost stitchery. We used up some left over jelly roll strips and to give her a little challenge we put corner stones in the border. Plus it added the extra bit of colour she wanted.<br />
This holidays has seen me enlarge and trace out six new stitcheries for her. I am a very smiling Mum.<br />

The blog is "Sew It's Finished 2012". The button is on the left side of my page. Exactly what the Dr ordered. I need to finish some of my to do list before adding new projects. I have got honest with myself and have listed ( I think ) all I have outstanding. Looking over the list *** sigh*** there is a lot of what I call long timers.... This means they require many, many hours of hand stitching and of course only sew many hours in a day. I also have quite a few long termers....... those that have been on my list of half completed a very long time. It will be nice to have the support of the group to see some of these through.<br />
The thought of joining this group has spurred me on to complete a wall hanging quilt that has been in the making nearly six years. My Accuquilt has also been a big help. I received a cutter that does 9 - 2 1/2 squares in one cut , and as this quilt is from scrap sized fabric pieces - this reduced the cutting time by about 3 hours. It took me 10 mins. Oh the bliss. Usually by the time I have finished cutting - my time in my craft space is over and family duties step up, I then have to wait until "next time".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztJ6e1ruKmaREPkAkYVdCW9Rz45d-SMyNQTiVUTZyrolaLpSMhVGF418X9m_oehq2mrlygVrQiH3pFrbWCwn_AfoL2gjtnCZ5SID415Kq6Rw7T3ll7ystnmXUbG32-ZMD2telt5bdb7Tc/s1600/P1010074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztJ6e1ruKmaREPkAkYVdCW9Rz45d-SMyNQTiVUTZyrolaLpSMhVGF418X9m_oehq2mrlygVrQiH3pFrbWCwn_AfoL2gjtnCZ5SID415Kq6Rw7T3ll7ystnmXUbG32-ZMD2telt5bdb7Tc/s320/P1010074.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
As you can see they are sample sized pieces of fabric, all different sizes. The Accuquilt cuts six layers at a time and doesn't care if they are all odd sizes, I lined them up to get the best I could from the fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_0TOqBGNZHSHvPx62v6-fqcC8Q6Ex7mXpJLVv12MiaiWK7OcGb3ZqWZ1fBpVFJRZrbsvaA0MfLA66_f2vOwovqUd1p4jP9nJACpI9X2t11WtuVwr3v_1KBTv0jZRhNLFxpXrlxlFpztG0/s1600/P1010075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_0TOqBGNZHSHvPx62v6-fqcC8Q6Ex7mXpJLVv12MiaiWK7OcGb3ZqWZ1fBpVFJRZrbsvaA0MfLA66_f2vOwovqUd1p4jP9nJACpI9X2t11WtuVwr3v_1KBTv0jZRhNLFxpXrlxlFpztG0/s320/P1010075.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
This is progress, I am much further on now than when this photo was taken ( 3 days ago ) I have hit a little snag - so am working through it. Plus back to school shopping has to be done.......Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-60235763342568079572012-01-04T14:12:00.000+08:002012-01-04T14:12:08.643+08:00New ArrivalsA box came today, a really big box at 8am......... Addressed to my husband...... I made a phone call. He said "oh good it came in time for your birthday" An early January birthday can have pro's and con's. After much debate I was allowed to open it - More Accuquilt cutting dies and a bag to keep it in - WOOHOO. As if I wasn't still recovering from the shock of my Christmas present.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5jYuZYg9Kw/TwPlQpr5QUI/AAAAAAAAAO4/j4s3SICBwRc/s1600/P1010068.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5jYuZYg9Kw/TwPlQpr5QUI/AAAAAAAAAO4/j4s3SICBwRc/s320/P1010068.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After tidying my craft room, circling my go cutter too many times to count, finishing my ironing board cover,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_CruudUgQFM/TwPl3HUhfrI/AAAAAAAAAPE/6SXwsbc4yf0/s1600/P1010069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_CruudUgQFM/TwPl3HUhfrI/AAAAAAAAAPE/6SXwsbc4yf0/s320/P1010069.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Doing a few loads of washing and generally taking the long road, I finally bit the bullet - found some scrap fabric and did my first cut. Like a knife through butter. After all the You Tube tutorials I have watched (thinking - gee they make it look easy) It is that easy. A quick point though - I will chew through the cutting mats. On a big project, no matter how many times I rotate them I can see the mats needing to be replaced. they are not too expensive as a disposable item and I now understand why they (Accuquilt) say you need a couple of each size on hand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SvH1hhYFoZo/TwPn_lReoSI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/pfx8UjQN5fA/s1600/P1010070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SvH1hhYFoZo/TwPn_lReoSI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/pfx8UjQN5fA/s320/P1010070.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2 1/2 inch strip - handy for bindings and fall medley. The fall medley die will be used to finish a quilt that has been going for about 6 years - I got stuck with the design plus I have a 2 1/2 inch square multi die to also use in this quilt. All very cool.<br />
I also had a little win at spotlight, Christmas fabrics at $3 a metre. So what is a girl to do? By a metre of each of course. I have no idea what to do with it. I also bought some buttons and gingerbread men appliques 75% off the marked price.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u84_FX0AvEo/TwPq3eCALEI/AAAAAAAAAPc/uK9I-6jeCOo/s1600/P1010067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u84_FX0AvEo/TwPq3eCALEI/AAAAAAAAAPc/uK9I-6jeCOo/s320/P1010067.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have also bought some sheet sets to make into doona covers for my boys - it is very hard to get good quality plain covers for teenage boys. A single sheet set sheet is the correct size for a double doona. Boring old straight sewing is needed for this. We have also put up roller blinds on our vast expanse of windows and they are begging for a pelmet box - so this is also on my soon to do list.<br />
Lots of sewing for these holidays...........Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-2077989651876197132011-12-27T14:45:00.000+08:002011-12-27T14:45:06.283+08:00Spoilt by Father ChristmasMy Christmas day was a fun and busy one. We had a family get together at our house, everyone brings a plate or two, bathers and a towel, esky with drinks and a few present goodies. It is so much fun trading, eating and chatting. This year saw the temperature at about 32 degrees celsius with a 2pm sea breeze. I did not have the heart to put the air conditioner on especially with the pool not far away. We all found our cool and comfy spot and there we relaxed.<br />
However before the visitors arrived we had our own present unwrapping and for a week I have been staring at a rather large box from my husband under the tree. My very naughty girlfriend did lift it and told me it was heavy, I was not game to touch it in case I got caught. At last the day came. Now as I have two Part Time working boys - who have had a ball shopping with their own money buying gifts for us all and my youngest using my gift budget, this large box had to wait until last. My kids put a lot of thought into their gifts and they were practical and well suited to each of us. It was so nice to see their faces when they handed over the bundles and how much we loved the contents.<br />
Hubby already had and knew what his gift was, I have no idea about diving gear and as that was what he wanted I left the choosing up to him. It has been sitting however, under the tree the past three weeks - now he can use it....<br />
The large box to my great surprise was this :-<br />

OMG right. I thought I had a long list of projects lined up, now it has just gone to infinity and beyond. I did think about canceling the family coming over so I could get started but I was and still am so overwhelmed that it was safer to wait a few days before I get started. I had no idea - a complete surprise. My darling husband ordered it of the internet and intercepted the courier at the depot, so I didn't see the box. I am almost ready to brave my craft room where it is set up and have a little fiddle, I am an instructions reader and as there isn't a very big instruction book I have been scouring the internet every spare moment to learn any tips and tricks. Deep breath. Here goes........Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-61577597193777904602011-12-20T09:43:00.000+08:002011-12-20T09:43:21.423+08:00How's it Hanging?Don't you just love Christmas? It is my favourite time of year. On the 1st of November all of my year round pictures and hangings come down and all of my Christmas things go up. On the 1st of December the tree and the rest of the decorations go up. I love the change the house undergoes in this period. I have had a couple of Christmas finishes this year so we had to find new places to hang them. So here is a run down of what is hanging in my house.<br />

Of course I am sure that more projects will present themselves for future Xmas's. Teachers have a hard job....... Need I say more. Anyway I am ashamed to say that I had completely forgotten her gift. My theme this year for our family gifts is mug rugs, as you may have read. I like the idea of mug rugs, we all have our tea / coffee as a breather - some of us have to have it on the go. It is nice to think that when you have this mind saving beverage that a little rug, a nice cup and a couple of biscuits adds to the moment.<br />
So pedal to the metal............ I am so pleased with how it turned out. I did not have time to think and rethink as I usually do. I pulled the fabrics, found a pattern and set too. The pattern had never been tried before. I usually like to test a pattern before I make it as a gift. Sigh of relief. It is a Chandlers Cottage - Chinese Treasure Purse <a href="http://www.chandlerscottage.com/" target="_blank">www.chandlerscottage.com</a> . I bought it as a kit about 8 years ago and have never made it up - and now I will. It is on my things to do list. We buy, we have intentions, we buy...........<br />

The down side is I am unable to access my machine and fabrics, the upside is I set up my basket and put in all the little hand sewing projects that need to be finished. Usually these are not in one place so they get forgotten. So in the lead up to the arrival of guests, I sought through my room putting bits away and give it a clean. When the guests leave I have a lovely clean slate to fill with my "creativity". In my house a messy sewing room is labelled "Creative". So back to my basket. Now just because I put things in my basket doesn't mean I get it all finished, wishful thinking.....<br />

I thought this would be a long term, however I seem to be cruising quite nicely at the moment.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had enough fabrics leftover from the mug rugs to make a table runner for my dining table. Our table is a 12 seater, so table runners seem like small quilts when putting them together. This runner and the 30 mug rugs were made out of two Jelly Rolls. I then purchased plain colored and white homespun for borders and binding. I couldn't decide which color binding to use on the runner so as you can see I used them all. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmB-2K5z9fxOqZoPIQ8z-ry3IAPh5akNaVLfzt-4LvNCSxEDeNb3g2Pu7gOQuQNyLo5jTZjSNsdv-alvW5jguUR7ajfLlQzp5eWCHrBBnunc0tv34odY77dxV6du4He2mTAMI7xHOk_Ua2/s1600/P1000988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmB-2K5z9fxOqZoPIQ8z-ry3IAPh5akNaVLfzt-4LvNCSxEDeNb3g2Pu7gOQuQNyLo5jTZjSNsdv-alvW5jguUR7ajfLlQzp5eWCHrBBnunc0tv34odY77dxV6du4He2mTAMI7xHOk_Ua2/s320/P1000988.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We have had a good year with this particular teacher and I would like to make something extra special. I also make my Nanna's dresses and they have been bumped up the priority list. So the few bits I have put on the back burner will be nice to finish off in the new year. Boy that sounds weird. Can I get on? or not. Can I read others? or not. It has been a great source of frustration. I love reading what others are up to and also post what I am doing and at the time little things I have done I want to share and of course now the moment has passed. So moving on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I have started making my Xmas Pressies for the family, Mug rugs. I saw the pattern on this blog <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 11px;"><a href="http://www.ryanwalshquilts.com/2010/11/dresden-wedges-mug-rug-tutorial-bliss.html">http://www.ryanwalshquilts.com/2010/11/dresden-wedges-mug-rug-tutorial-bliss.htm</a></span> and loved the idea. I purchased a couple of jelly rolls in Xmas fabrics and "started" I have just recently found border and binding fabrics and will finish them off.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 11px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Then it will be a matter of finding cute Xmas mugs.........</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Tahoma;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 11px;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3NS5pxRTQGqBpWtwxHpgjtPAD_6jTSii19pG4BWTcICGPkMPSLcOTjMNAaFoAafLJYX9_PhsJEsRExs32FwEQO2xjIGFmlmpAifTvOUAsex4sQBt3nqH0gKhFzMWtFZFov_QlctQLUh7F/s1600/P1000967.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3NS5pxRTQGqBpWtwxHpgjtPAD_6jTSii19pG4BWTcICGPkMPSLcOTjMNAaFoAafLJYX9_PhsJEsRExs32FwEQO2xjIGFmlmpAifTvOUAsex4sQBt3nqH0gKhFzMWtFZFov_QlctQLUh7F/s320/P1000967.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Don't you just love a rotary cutting mat.<br />

I was going to post a progress photo on the runner but thought I would just do a big finish :)<br />
<br />
My Vignette hexagon quilt is coming along nicely. I have just finished 26 more flowers and am a little over half ways there. Yay 66 flowers finished. I have "pappered" up another 50 and will start sewing again soon. Just not enough hours in and evening. Plus we are in school, holidays at the moment so there is less waiting for kids at bus stations and school so my tag along project has slowed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMfs1WWzZl8zEU7ojS5c9mrnWlDg1wE5ZbCC_yfLIjAB-akv4njdt2QHLxTVjdgrB7ZDu9eOYWt724knquVcxHqO6XkA-cQR6vCk0dYTKf50_eT6xs_77aMF0lEgvUKWGAxOXEqchvaPWQ/s1600/P1000978.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMfs1WWzZl8zEU7ojS5c9mrnWlDg1wE5ZbCC_yfLIjAB-akv4njdt2QHLxTVjdgrB7ZDu9eOYWt724knquVcxHqO6XkA-cQR6vCk0dYTKf50_eT6xs_77aMF0lEgvUKWGAxOXEqchvaPWQ/s320/P1000978.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This colourway hexagons have been removed from the quilt. There were just too many of the same so I have decided to make a table runner with them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbkuuKlqi2plCod41DYXt9uB588z9kxk6qPDeawHJhDJYNKf5SZeJtFR15wfh7BcQkP6pMUPRjk8vj_s6bJjl1jdQ7NnLlK08AmYfzNVPxGc5V0X38LQ8qtSyzTYmA9Uyc5OZymyeSBtIS/s1600/P1000979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbkuuKlqi2plCod41DYXt9uB588z9kxk6qPDeawHJhDJYNKf5SZeJtFR15wfh7BcQkP6pMUPRjk8vj_s6bJjl1jdQ7NnLlK08AmYfzNVPxGc5V0X38LQ8qtSyzTYmA9Uyc5OZymyeSBtIS/s320/P1000979.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I have also been stitching up a storm with the Tis the Season blocks. I was unable to join the stitch along blog <a href="http://chookyblue.blogspot.com/">http://chookyblue.blogspot.com/</a> has been hosting but have been following it very closely. The difference in the quilts has been fun to watch. I started a little later than the blog and did not have Chooky's whip at my heals but am still planning to hang it in November / December this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqr-Tg6xD-2jUX3i16J2wNE9wW1K5HuAOPuieqodkJzxRPLkT6CLIIOnqKzxOX9OPDH_BjKi1Rt0oUBsYbPB5wcF7ZRkpX6Gb3taOxKqwfMHW-QZ0_Spjb9LI5StnYAFvVlmpXnB1nqkru/s1600/P1000980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqr-Tg6xD-2jUX3i16J2wNE9wW1K5HuAOPuieqodkJzxRPLkT6CLIIOnqKzxOX9OPDH_BjKi1Rt0oUBsYbPB5wcF7ZRkpX6Gb3taOxKqwfMHW-QZ0_Spjb9LI5StnYAFvVlmpXnB1nqkru/s320/P1000980.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I have also finished the first stage of a Christmas panel advent calender. I will confess I started hand quilting it about 4 years ago and have finally got it too a point where I wanted to finish it with machine quilting. I like to quilt around parts of the print with a silk thread but not over embellish ( for me, I like it simple )<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUqQOIoAXKz0Sd39ptUryG3RiLckcrxEU6-jPpGs5VyS-kKTrRn2sIoRL-dUsMneHO_CDFpxioQ-oxrfEzfBSg0kHW5te5BCR1ilCtgd7L_h5WX6Tp9H6gQqmFQLzs9kRmD2_8koKzRw9P/s1600/P1000982.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUqQOIoAXKz0Sd39ptUryG3RiLckcrxEU6-jPpGs5VyS-kKTrRn2sIoRL-dUsMneHO_CDFpxioQ-oxrfEzfBSg0kHW5te5BCR1ilCtgd7L_h5WX6Tp9H6gQqmFQLzs9kRmD2_8koKzRw9P/s320/P1000982.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
I backstitch over any writing and then put it together as per normal. I have completed a few panels this way now and enjoy the process.<br />
<br />

I am just fine tuning my idea before I start them. The little goodies hang from buttons on the tree<br />

</tbody></table>Heaps more bits to post but photo downloading is now playing up for me...... My patience is wearing thin so I think I will have to return to my sewing to calm down.... I hope I have posted the links correctly, I am still learning about blog posting.<br />
I think it is time to get Hubby to look at my computer. It has been playing up heaps lately and has just dropped my photo downloading program for my camera. I know i'm not completely computer literate however I did not delete it. We installed an upgrade a little while ago and that is when things started going down hill. I just hate parting with my laptop long enough for Hubby to do his bit, :)<br />
We are in the middle of school holidays and today is a particularly stunning sunny day, I think sewing in the sunshine is in order...........Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-13021987919263988902011-08-15T20:48:00.000+08:002011-08-15T20:48:35.574+08:00A Sad Day.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh27YCFVL5721g2F3lyRUtLEtTNQ-kKnulM3tY8QTdro5VcW5dPNeb0dnViMpMTiK0d4GzM9SbkStWGvDkVtLihJFAvB_D8gB7CHVEONB0483i6Ga6OME8WtXxve7OoB8fRIkMRCCaJZXvq/s1600/P1000602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh27YCFVL5721g2F3lyRUtLEtTNQ-kKnulM3tY8QTdro5VcW5dPNeb0dnViMpMTiK0d4GzM9SbkStWGvDkVtLihJFAvB_D8gB7CHVEONB0483i6Ga6OME8WtXxve7OoB8fRIkMRCCaJZXvq/s320/P1000602.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
September three years ago a tiny little addition entered our house, a guinea pig who we called Smokey Joe. Hubby and I were looking around a pet shop this day, and were looking in the pens - the rabbits and guinea pigs all ran to the other the side of their hutches except for this little grey fuzz, of course hubby picks him up and carries him around and Smokey just fell asleep in his hand.<br />
This little bundle became a very big part of our lives, He liked to sit on polar fleece and watch TV. He sat on our laps and if we dared stop patting him he would nudge our hands to keep going. Every time I bought shopping home in plastic bags he would squeak for something out of them. Every time we would open the fridge door he would squeak. When anybody came home from school or work he would hang out his cage until you said hello and gave him a rub. And of course when he liked his rub he would purr like a cat.<br />
He travelled the Nullabour with my husband and oldest when we moved from Melbourne to Perth and thoroughly enjoyed his car trip to Sydney.<br />
His favorite foods were continental cucumber, baby spinach and beetroot leaves and the tops of dutch carrots.<br />
He would snuggle his head into your dressing gown roll over and go to sleep. He loved to play in the long grass before we mowed it and loved to follow the kids around the house, and when he had had enough he would head back up the ramp into his hutch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsAE3bo6hnnMDSKN54N8XcH5Y_dVcelYyLIEOdZIu9ZZyv145C_23WmibqR_oVjQzdb1z3wWs32NgjH2-BjJxs9-jCXkPa5-Wql855qgBfkZuZqMyGBHiWcpEv1l-b1RYMsP1SS9W4HnyB/s1600/P1000603.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsAE3bo6hnnMDSKN54N8XcH5Y_dVcelYyLIEOdZIu9ZZyv145C_23WmibqR_oVjQzdb1z3wWs32NgjH2-BjJxs9-jCXkPa5-Wql855qgBfkZuZqMyGBHiWcpEv1l-b1RYMsP1SS9W4HnyB/s320/P1000603.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Last week he became ill and was diagnosed as having a stone in his urine tract. Although the surgery was successful and Smokey awoke afterwards, he did not recover as well as expected.<br />
To us he was no ordinary guinea pig.<br />
We will miss him very much.<br />

The kids had their 2 weeks holidays. Hubby turned 40. We had a small party for his birthday and I got to dust off a few favourite recipes and spent the week cooking. It has been a while since I have "catered" and had forgot how much fun it is to choose recipes, shop and cook. I also got to try out my new double oven, I certainly put it through it's paces and it came up trumps.<br />
Finally My youngest and I flew to Melbourne for a few days. She is a blooming crafty, definately a patchworker and since part of my trip was the Quilt and Craft show I knew she had to come. I stayed at my Mum's and got to spend some time with my sister and her family.<br />
The craft show was full on. I find it very disappointing that a lot of the stalls don't make it to the Perth show. So I made it my goal to collect as many business cards as possible to have access to them online.<br />
I also got to catch up with the staff at my old workplace, Patchwork with Gail B. As for shopping hmmmm, I did a bit as did my 10yr old.<br />

</tbody></table>I still forgot to buy fabric for my "Tis the Season" quilt. I will have to do that online now. There was so much more I could have bought but did draw the line. The suitcase is only so big. Can't wait to explore the websites of some of the business cards I picked up.<br />
The flight home was an interesting one 120km head winds slow a plane down......... The pilot warned us our flight would be an extra 90mins but managed to bring us in with only and extra 60mins added to the normal flight time. However turbulence all the way and a very bumpy descend into Perth. Two thumbs up to the pilot, he constantly was updating our progress and gave us every assurance that we were ok. Normally you don't hear more than a few words from him.<br />
It is nice to have a little trip away but it is always nice to come home.Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-49031166025718073682011-07-15T19:59:00.000+08:002011-07-15T19:59:42.307+08:00Blankies for NewbiesIt has been a little while since I have made any of these, I came across these photo's the other day and thought I would share them. I love to give quilts as gifts but sometimes find that the receiver doesn't like to use them in case they spoil. A huge compliment. So I started making blankies. Easy to wash, dry and use. They are simply a piece of polar fleece and a piece of flannelette quilted together with no batting and a binding stitched around the edge. You could pillowcase and stitch a false binding but I like adding a little bit of hand sewing ( I love hand sewing the binding )<br />
Becareful as you may end up getting orders as they are so practical.....<br />

As you will have read in an earlier post, I have been laid up with my back. It has taken a lot longer to ease up than I would have hoped and I must say my patience is wearing extremely thin. The first couple of weeks I learnt how to sew hexagons whilst flat on my back. It is amazing what you can do when pushed. The hexagons delayed the insanity.............I am taking a little break from them now. The itch will come again soon to pick up needle and thread. I have also been trying to catch up on house duties, The Hubby and Kids have done a great job but I have my ways and need to get things back on track.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9M_fTt43jta8IhEiym0LLRBrQmyG5ZxMxXBgvHNqGgRDNP2ks4va4Oz4wPPHeFTZTxhkFcbyDXOrNPEdWbSNhEqF9B5eGKAeKZQVTBHobiA4qLS-qpZm38FZLEar835JD0jdh0AmALcER/s1600/P1000852.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9M_fTt43jta8IhEiym0LLRBrQmyG5ZxMxXBgvHNqGgRDNP2ks4va4Oz4wPPHeFTZTxhkFcbyDXOrNPEdWbSNhEqF9B5eGKAeKZQVTBHobiA4qLS-qpZm38FZLEar835JD0jdh0AmALcER/s320/P1000852.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
That makes 43 to my total now. I also tried to do some stitchery, however that is much harder while lying down so that was not as successful.<br />
Once I started sitting up, it was nice to have a change and managed to complete a couple of blocks for my Tis The Season wall hanging. I decided to omit the mittens block from the quilt and use the wreath for another little project.<br />

</tbody></table> I enlarged the wreath out of the TTS and will border it and add some Nikki Tervo buttons to the centres. I used to belong to Nikki's button club, I am really pleased to be able to use the buttons. Nikki supplies a pattern with each set of buttons she sends you however I wanted something a little different for these.<br />
I started a bag and mobile case for my bestie before my back went , and have just managed to finish them for her birthday. She wanted a simple bag for when they went away, and loved a Janelle Wind design that I had. It was nice to get back to my machine.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mobile and camera cases form Janelles book.........</td></tr>
</tbody></table>The camera case ended up to big for my camera, I made it to the pattern - the camera size given in the book is the same as mine and I followed the pattern to the letter ( not like me ), It will now end up a glasses case - I will make another camera case a little smaller - all good.<br />
Some of the sewing for these are very fiddly and I am sure my fingers get fatter when I try to sew fiddlies........<br />
I stumbled across a little cheap trick awhile ago and it is now well used in my sewing room. I was reading about stillettos and their use and thought yay, I will get one however they were over $20 and nothing special. I continued using a crochet hook. One day when tidying my sewing room I came across a pack of cuticle sticks - if you saw my nails you would wonder why I had them. I put them in the little bin next to my sewing machine thinking that I would never use them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtq9AF4pdYZdomMjuok4yr3P1rO2AgIU9oQUzSm4XH7qSUl67wPspO6bEHK8vFREBSTndDFF5QY6KZ7r_1RNqsMwDa2sydgLt8xwad-SbKYv2T9K4E1J3vyO9KTE_PE1ALNtKxynwCuKiR/s1600/P1000857.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtq9AF4pdYZdomMjuok4yr3P1rO2AgIU9oQUzSm4XH7qSUl67wPspO6bEHK8vFREBSTndDFF5QY6KZ7r_1RNqsMwDa2sydgLt8xwad-SbKYv2T9K4E1J3vyO9KTE_PE1ALNtKxynwCuKiR/s320/P1000857.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The next day fiddlies came up........ My crochet hook was nowhere insight and out of the bin came the cuticle sticks. As the are wood when your needle hits them it doesn't do a lot of damage, it is still best to change your needle but it doesn't ten to break it.<br />
They are also good when ironing small bits, you can hold the item with the stick rather than burning your fingers and being wood they don't heat up.<br />
I am looking forward to a trip to Melbourne later this month and a visit to a craft show............A short trip but a goodie hehehehKaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-4402573608881598892011-06-24T09:01:00.000+08:002011-06-24T09:01:44.853+08:00StolenHubby and I have had a very rude awakening. How did our everyday bank account become overdrawn, when we have not been using it? We usually check our account balance but not always our transaction history. Not as often as we should or will do now.<br />
As I have been not well with my back and still need a hand with lifting, hubby has been shopping with me. So when I went to get money out at the local ATM for the kids bus fares and found my account overdrawn I was very puzzled. I spent the day questioning myself and remembering what we had bought. Not even thinking that it may not be my fault.<br />
So when Hubby got home I told him. He was as stunned as me. We sat there trying to work out where it could have gone, still not thinking this was not our fault.<br />
Don't you just love internet banking - we logged on and there it was. A lot of transactions starting at $30 appearing on our transaction history. Some of them were as low as a $1.90. The details listed were Itunes, Google and Amazon. This card is a visa debit and has never been used on the internet so alarm bells rang.<br />
I rang fraud services at my bank and they took one look and said yep no problems ( ha I thought) they are fraudulent transactions they have been manually entered and are not of your usual history. There is also several transactions outstanding and declined because of the account going overdrawn........<br />
How? This card and account have never been used over the phone or on the internet.<br />
Answer: The people who do this have a random number generator and if they are lucky apparently more often than not they can take your money.<br />
Lets just say that after we have submitted disputed transaction paperwork we have 45 days to wait until we get our money. They have said it will definately be refunded. They got away with a few hundred however there was a few thousand in declined transactions.<br />
Moral of the tale - please check your account transaction history. Even the smallest amount because that's how they start.<br />
On another note - a craft post will be coming soon. My back is improving and it is nice to have left the house albeit an effort.Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795222658619284470.post-50063570248977388822011-06-17T08:31:00.000+08:002011-06-17T08:31:58.826+08:00M.I.A.I must say since my last post it has been a whirlwind of illness in this house. It has been a long time since we have all copped it. I started the cold run in the house. Sneezing, sniffling, you know the drill. One little hiccup - I sneezed and seized my back. So for 10 days i have not left my lounge chair, luckily my lounge is extremely supportive for laying on.<br />
However I am now suffering Cabin Fever. For those of you have seen Muppets Treasure Island it is exactly like that. I am now sitting for short periods of time and starting to take back a few tasks. Thank goodness for husband and kids but as you all know it is never quite done the way you want it so I can't wait until I am up and running. I have promised and email to a fellow blogger and it is coming - please forgive me for not sending it. I have been away from anything that requires sitting or standing. DVD's are no replacement for sewing.........<br />
Things are looking up and I will be thinking of the Friday Night Sew In ladies tonight.<br />
I hope to have photos and some sewing bits to share soon.<br />
Have a lovely weekend.Kaye Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12645840787887679046noreply@blogger.com3
